Maintaining their value leadership in
the entry-level segment, the 2004 Kia Rio sedan and Rio Cinco return with additional
exterior and interior features. For the new model year, the Rio sedan has a
suggested retail price of under $10,000, making it the lowest-priced sedan in
America, while its versatile five-door sibling, at around $11,000, is still
the lowest-priced vehicle in its segment. Both vehicles, like all Kia models,
are covered by Kia's industry-leading 10-year/10,000-mile comprehensive
warranty program.
"We believe the Rio models are the best-value vehicles in the entry-level
segment," said Peter M. Butterfield, Kia's president and chief executive
officer. "Add all that to Kia's industry-leading warranty protection
and this year's new equipment, and you can see why we think the two Rio
models will enjoy even more success in 2004."
The low price tags don't keep the Rio and Rio Cinco from offering their
buyers full-featured vehicles with a stylish appearance.
Both models now come equipped with body-color fog light blanks, a change from
the previous silver. Interior changes were made to add comfort and convenience
for the driver of the 2004 Rio and Rio Cinco, including lumbar support added
to the driver's seat, rubber padding in the rear storage bin of the center
console, color door pull/switch plate on door panels, and more. In addition,
a rear spoiler is now available for the Rio sedan.
The Rio models are powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine producing
104 horsepower and have been engineered to provide a smooth, quiet ride. Stopping
power is ample due to large diameter (10.0 in.) front disc brakes. Four-wheel
anti-lock brakes are optional on both models.
Low price does not mean styling is sacrificed. Both Rio models feature sporty
exterior styling and this year the Rio Cinco offers body-color garnish as a
standard feature with an optional body-color rear spoiler. Customers can choose
from seven exterior colors including: Rally Blue, Cinnamon, Blueberry, Diamond
Silver, Willow Green, Pewter Gray and Midnight Black.
Standard equipment lists for both models are generous and include auto-off
headlights and variable intermittent windshield wipers, fade-out interior light,
rear seat heater vents, LATCH child safety anchors, full wheel covers and a
sporty five-spoke alloy wheel design on the Rio Cinco (an option on the Rio
sedan). In addition, both models offer a door panel design that features front
door map pockets with an integrated bottle holder. The Rio and Rio Cinco both
feature extensive interior space, with a height-adjustable driver's seat
and an integral fold-down armrest.
Power windows and an AM/FM/CD player (standard on Rio Cinco) are offered on
the option list, which also includes automatic transmission, air conditioning
and antilock brakes. Realizing there is a strong demand for a vehicle beyond
the base model, Kia offers an Upgrade Package that includes power steering,
tilt steering wheel, body side molding, tachometer, dual vanity mirrors and
dual map lights with sunglass case. Kia also offers a Power Package that adds
power windows and door locks to the vehicles.
Like all Kia models, Rio and Rio Cinco are covered by Kia's comprehensive
warranty program, which offers unprecedented consumer protection. Included in
the package are a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a five-year
or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty and a five-year or 100,000-mile anti-perforation
warranty. A five-year/unlimited mileage roadside assistance plan is also part
of the comprehensive coverage program.
